Whether driving from the public boat landing around to The Lagoon or simply finding your way off of Highway 8 into The Lagoon driveway, be safe! Below is a map of the area with a suggested travel making ONLY right turns so as not to cross traffic. For those of you parking vehicles and boat trailers at Tipperary (the public boat landing) or along that town road--PLEASE BE CAREFUL. The area becomes congested; meaning, vigilance, patience, and happy attitudes are needed to ensure everyone's safety and fun. Be safe when driving is these areas, please! Although there seems to be an arrow signifying that "NORTH" is to the right, the arrow is meant to show the direction of traffic travelling east along the town road. "NORTH" is at the top of the map. Sorry for any misunderstanding!
Thank you for pre-registering! Look who signed up today for the June 14 Neil McKenzie Youth Fishing Derby: Bradley 17; Joshua 14; Tristan 12; Elizabeth 11; Caleb 11; and Cheyanne 7. Volunteer boat drivers, pontoon owners, and others are signing up too to help again this year. It seems that once someone has joined in on this special day, well, it just seems like they want to come back and do it again. Thank you! So many kids who might not have a chance to go fishing truly learn LOTS and make marvelous memories on this day thanks to so many caring adults! Although everyone will be pre-registered before June 1, fisher-kids and volunteers are asked to check-in at the Lagoon property. This is the site where fisher-kids are matched up with boats and pontoons for the day, and they put their names in the barrel for a door prize drawing during the awards ceremony! All boats launch at the public boat landing at the north end of the lake. If you have any questions, PLEASE send us a message or call Joyce at 715-646-2060. Looking forward to a great day where we all pitch in to KEEP KIDS FISHIN'! :-) Here's a "Throw-back Thursday" fishing photo from 2004! In fishing terms, a throw-back refers to a non-keeper fish (too small); but in Facebook terms, throw-back means a keeper photo from years gone by. :-) The photos are fun, and with them from the Neil McKenzie Youth Fishing Derby come STORIES!! For anyone who knew Neil, you knew he loved to tell stories. Kids, we want YOU to have your own stories to tell... about the one that got away, the one you caught, the one you let go to grow bigger! Please pre-register to allow us to plan for another great day! (We need headcount to plan for FOOD, trophies, boats, pontoons -- and volunteers to make it happen. We can only take up to 100 kids, so PLEASE register today!! Thanks!) Who else will register online to fish this year's derby? If these Toucan, I mean, two can..... you can, too! :) Emily, Age 11, and Hannah, Age 14, pre-registered! You can, too, at http://www.neilmckenzieyouthfishingcontest.org/online-registration.html A late but sincere \\shout out// to two sponsors of the fishing derby: Dan and Sue Schmitt of Lakeville, Minn.
CONGRATULATIONS on being named "Business Persons of the Year" for 2013. The honors were bestowed on them in January. For those of us who grew up (or are still) riding school buses, we appreciate their company's efforts to provide safe transportation. In addition to the Lakeville award, Dan and Sue have received "awards to the company for outstanding service and safety record, perfect bus inspections, as well as recognition from such organizations as the National School Transportation Association and the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association." THANK YOU for keeping kids safe on your buses and for helping to Keep Kids Fishin'! http://lakeville.patch.com/groups/business-news/p/sue-and-dan-schmitt-named-2013-business-persons-of-the-year Happy May Day! And with May Day comes.... what??!?! ... You guessed it THE OPENER!! If you have to ask "what opener" you have been under a snowbank far too long this winter. :) The Wisconsin Fishing Opener is this Saturday, May 3, 2014. And, yes, the ice is OFF Deer Lake. Whew! We didn't know if it would be.
Now, May 1 has something in common with the Neil McKenzie Youth Fishing Derby -- "What's that?" you ask. Well, it is one month from May 1 to June 1 -- the deadline for kids to pre-register for the June 14 Neil McKenzie Youth Fishing Derby on Deer Lake! You can register online here within this website or register in person with Joyce McKenzie by calling her home phone number, 715-646-2060. We ask that you provide the names and ages of the fisher-kids along with parent email, phone, and home mailing address. The important information that we need, too, is if the fisher-kids will need space in a boat/pontoon that day or if you are bringing your own boat. For those families bringing their own boat/kids, please let us know if you have room for one or two other fisher-kids. Your support is what makes this day possible! We are so appreciative of all the businesses and individuals who pitch in to make this a great day for the kids! Thanks, everyone, for all you do to "Keep Kids Fishin'!" |
